📋

These are the official W2 Spring Classic tournament rules for 2027. By registering, all teams agree to abide by these rules.

Eligibility

  • 1.1Teams must consist of at least 3 and no more than 4 registered players. No additions after registration closes.
  • 1.2Players must meet the age requirement for their division on the day of the tournament.
  • 1.3A player may compete on one team per division. Playing in multiple divisions is permitted.
  • 1.4All players must check in at the registration table with valid ID before their first game.
  • 1.5Teams competing with unregistered or ineligible players will forfeit all games in which that player participated.

Game Format

  • 2.1All games are 3-on-3. A minimum of 3 players must be present to avoid forfeit.
  • 2.2Games are played to 21 points. Two-point shots from inside the arc, three-point shots from behind the arc.
  • 2.3Hard 20-minute time limit. The leading team at the buzzer wins regardless of score.
  • 2.4If the score is tied at time, one sudden death possession for each team is played. The team that scores wins. The team that does not score loses.
  • 2.5Possession alternates after each scored basket. The defensive team takes possession after every made shot.
  • 2.6After a defensive rebound or steal, the ball must be cleared behind the arc before a shot attempt counts.
  • 2.7The ball is checked in only after a dead ball. The ball must be passed in off the check - no self-starts.
  • 2.8Balls are provided. Teams may use their own ball with opponent approval.

Fouls and Violations

  • 3.1Self-officiated games rely on player honesty. Call your own fouls.
  • 3.2On a called foul during a shot attempt, the fouled team shoots one free throw worth 1 point. Play resumes from the top of the key after the free throw regardless of whether it is made.
  • 3.3Flagrant fouls may result in immediate ejection of the player. Tournament staff make the final determination.
  • 3.4Disputes between teams must be brought to tournament staff. Do not argue on court. Staff decisions are final.
  • 3.5Unsportsmanlike conduct - including taunting, profanity directed at opponents, or physical altercations - will result in ejection and possible team disqualification.

Bracket and Scheduling

  • 4.1All brackets are double elimination. Every team is guaranteed at least 2 games.
  • 4.2Teams must be at their assigned court and ready to play within 10 minutes of their scheduled game time.
  • 4.3A team that is not present and ready within 10 minutes of game time may forfeit the game at the discretion of tournament staff. Tournament staff make the final call.
  • 4.4Bracket seeding is determined by random draw on the day of the tournament.
  • 4.5Schedule and court assignments are managed through TourneyMachine. Teams are responsible for monitoring their own schedule.
  • 4.6Tournament staff reserve the right to adjust schedules and court assignments at any time for operational reasons.

Prizes and Awards

  • 5.11st place in each division receives a cash prize to be split evenly among the team, and will also receive medals. Cash prizes: Kids $1,000 - Youth $1,000 - Young Adult $1,000 - Co-Ed $2,000 - Women's $4,000 - Men's $4,000.
  • 5.3All prize recipients must be present at the championship game to collect their award. Prizes will not be mailed.
  • 5.4Teams found to have violated eligibility rules forfeit all prizes.

None of this happens without the people behind it

Our Sponsors

To Our Sponsors

This event exists because of your belief in community, and your commitment in being a part of it. You did not have to show up for Walla Walla, you did not have to invest in a first-year tournament with a big vision and no track record. But you did, and that matters more than you know, to a ton of people.

Your support helped to highlight three great nonprofits doing profound work, put cash prizes in the hands of athletes who love this game and town, created cherished memories for hundreds of people, and real dollars toward cancer research and reentry support. You each are so much more than a logo on a banner; you are part of the foundation this event is built on.

Thank you for betting on this community. We will not forget it, and neither should you.

Our Volunteers

To Our Volunteers

Whew, thank you. You gave not just your time, but your energy, your attention, your patience, and your good humor across three long days of basketball in the Eastern Washington sun. You kept score, ran brackets, checked in/on teams, answered the same question forty times, and smiled every single time.

The W2 Spring Classic works because of people like you; people who show up not because they had to but because they wanted to be part of something lasting and great. You could easily be the invisible infrastructure of this event, but know we all see you.

Thank you. Genuinely. Come back next year - please! Lol.

2027 volunteers will be listed here

Walla Walla

To Walla Walla

You are a town that shows up for its own. You have shown that again here; in the teams that registered, the families that came out to watch, the businesses that sponsored, and the individuals who simply believed this was worth doing.

The W2 Spring Classic was built for this community; for the kids who need somewhere to compete, for the adults who never stopped loving the game, and for the families who want to spend Memorial Day Weekend doing something that means something. You gave this event its reason for existing. You did so with intention and love.

Walla Walla is not a small town trying to be something bigger. It is exactly what it needs to be; and events like this are proof of that. Thank you for being home.

The Players

To The Players

You are the heartbeat of the Classic.

You registered, you showed up, you competed, and you showed this community why basketball is such a beautiful game with everything you had. Whether you won your division or went out in the first round, you gave this event its heartbeat. Every basket, every disputed call, every comeback, every handshake at the end; that is what the W2 Spring Classic is made of.

Basketball brings out something beautiful in people; and we saw that in you this weekend. You represented your teams, your families, and this community with ferocity and grace. Thank you.

We look forward to seeing you again in '28, encourage you to tell your circles, and cannot wait to run it back next year.

This event is yours. Champions were crowned. Who's got next?

The Game

A Letter to Basketball

You have been bringing people together for over a hundred years. On playgrounds, in gyms, in driveways, on blacktop, under lights that stay on too late - you have given people a reason to be in the same place at the same time. That is not nothing. That is everything.

You do not care where someone comes from. You do not care how much money they have, what they look like, or what they have been through. You care about one thing; whether they love the game and give a damn about the life poured into it. And when the game is good - when the passes are crisp, the court is full, and the energy is right - there is nothing like it in the world.

Lasting memories, relationships, and passions come to life thru you. All because someone looked at an empty parking lot and imagined seven courts full of people competing, laughing, arguing, celebrating, and coming back next year. Because the game makes that kind of imagining feel possible. It makes it worth all of the work, blood, sweat, and tears.

You have also been a vehicle for healing. For the young person who needed somewhere to put their energy. For the returning citizen who found dignity in competition again. For the family that gelled around the game. You carry more weight of the world than you know; and you carry it gracefully with might.

Thank you for being the kind of game that builds something when it is played right. Thank you for being a haven, a calling, and a sport that caters to all.

With mad love and all the respect,

- The W2 Spring Classic
